Arsenal Crushes United Under Amorim with Two Second-Half Goals
Arsenal defeated Manchester United 2-0 this Wednesday, handing Rúben Amorim his first loss as the team's manager. United set up a very conservative strategy, but Arsenal broke their resistance in the second half with goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba, both from corner kicks.
Amorim's toughest test came quickly after a draw and two victories in his first matches. Arsenal, needing to win to stay in the title race, didn't let the opportunity slip away, especially after Liverpool's 3-3 draw against Newcastle.
Manchester United, with solid defense and high pressing, neutralized Arsenal in the first half, which struggled to create danger. The only clear chance came from Thomas Partey, whose shot was poorly executed. United also failed to create clear opportunities, with Diogo Dalot nearly scoring with a cross-shot that grazed the post.
The second half was a different story. Arsenal, more determined, capitalized on two corner kicks to score. The first, taken by Declan Rice, was finished off by Timber, and the second, delivered by Saka, found Partey, whose shot rebounded off Saliba's back into the net for the second goal.
David Raya saved Arsenal with a stunning stop from a header by Matthijs de Ligt. Despite United's efforts, Arsenal secured the win, and Amorim suffered his first major defeat as Manchester United manager.
