Manchester United Reveals It Paid Over $10 Million to Erik Ten Hag for His Dismissal
Manchester United has revealed in its annual financial accounts that it paid approximately $12 million to Erik Ten Hag following his dismissal in October. The Dutch manager, who had a contract with the club until June 2026, was replaced by Rúben Amorim.
Ten Hag's Severance Pay and His Coaching Staff
The club had to pay $10 million because Ten Hag still had nearly two years left on his contract. This amount includes severance for both the manager and his coaching staff, as confirmed in Manchester United's annual accounts.
In addition, United also incurred a cost of $4.1 million (approximately $4.9 million) for hiring and subsequently firing Dan Ashworth, who served as the club's sporting director for just five months. Ashworth joined Manchester United in the summer after previously being at Newcastle United, but his departure came shortly after. This amount covers both the cost of his signing and his severance pay, excluding his salary during those months.
Financial Impact on the Club's Accounts
The Manchester United accounts for 2024 show a 12% drop in revenue compared to the previous year, mainly due to the failure to qualify for the Champions League and the resulting loss of television revenue.
