Lionel Messi has once again shown why he remains one of the most decisive footballers in the world. In just five days, the Argentine star delivered two masterful performances with Inter Miami, scoring two hat-tricks and adding two assists, directly contributing to eight goals during this short period.  

The first spark of his brilliant week came against New York City FC. Messi scored three goals and provided an assist in his team’s 5-1 victory, proving that even at 37 years old, his physical form is no obstacle. Without time to rest, he shone once more just days later against the New England Revolution.  

Inter Miami, aiming to break the MLS points record, found itself trailing 2-0 in the first half. However, Messi's entrance in the 57th minute changed the course of the game. In just 30 minutes, the Argentine scored another hat-trick and assisted Benjamin Cremaschi’s goal, sealing an emphatic 6-2 victory and securing the team’s record-breaking 74 points.

A Performance Worthy of the MVP

Since joining Inter Miami in the summer of 2023, Messi has accumulated impressive numbers: 20 goals and 16 assists in just 19 MLS regular-season matches. Although he missed several games due to injuries and national team duties with Argentina, the “number 10” delivered decisive performances whenever he stepped onto the field.  

With these stats, Messi emerges as a strong contender for the MLS MVP award, despite playing fewer matches than other top players in the league. His influence has also been evident in Inter Miami's collective achievements, including the 2024 Supporters' Shield, as well as successes in the Leagues Cup and the US Open Cup.  

Future Goals: The MLS Cup and the Club World Cup

Beyond the MLS Cup, Messi already has his sights set on the 2025 Club World Cup. FIFA confirmed that Inter Miami will participate in the tournament and will play the opening match at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium. With this spot secured, the only team left to be determined is the winner of the 2024 Copa Libertadores, which will also earn a place in the competition.  

In just five days, Messi once again demonstrated that his magic remains intact, scoring two hat-tricks and leading his team to a historic record. What seemed impossible for many, the Argentine makes routine.
