Lamine Yamal: 'We Didn't Want Comparisons with Messi'
The Spanish forward talked about Messi and the possibility of Nico Williams joining Barcelona.
After scoring one of the best goals of the Euro Cup against the French national team and advancing to the final, Lamine Yamal has captured the attention of football fans worldwide. At just 16 years old, the Barcelona player continues to achieve success in his career.
In an interview with "jijantes," the Spanish player admitted that the photo with Messi had never been personally revealed before, and that his father was the first to show it to him.
"At the moment the photo was taken, I wasn't aware Messi was there, obviously. My father was the first to show it to me, but we never brought it out because we didn't want comparisons between Leo and me. No one minds being compared to the greatest player in history. But it's something that detracts because you'll never be like him," Yamal mentioned.
Additionally, the 16-year-old is already registered in Barcelona's first team for the upcoming season, where he'll need to choose a shirt number. However, he's not losing sleep over it or feeling pressured by fans' desire for him to wear the '10'.
"I don't mind, whichever number as long as I play. '19' I think Vitor has, I'll take one that no one else has. '17' I think no one has it because Marcos has left, but any number," he admitted.
He also made it clear that he doesn't think about winning individual awards like the Ballon d'Or, as his main goal is to win titles with his club and national team. "I prefer winning a Champions League or a Euro Cup," the Spaniard commented.
To conclude, the young footballer refrained from commenting on the possible signing of his teammate and friend, Nico Williams, with the Catalan team. Instead, Lamine Yamal simply said, "Hopefully" he could play with Nico at the same club.
