LaLiga Will File a Lawsuit Against Real Madrid, Says President
LaLiga president Javier Tebas announced on Thursday that the organization will file a lawsuit against Real Madrid due to their protest letter against refereeing. Tebas accused the club of being "against everything" and attempting to "harm the competition." He also claimed that the club "has lost its mind."
The Lawsuit and Tebas' Arguments
In statements after the LaLiga meeting with the Technical Committee of Referees, the RFEF, and other professional clubs (except for Real Madrid, who chose not to attend), Tebas explained that they are legally analyzing whether the lawsuit will be directed at the club in general, those who signed the letter, or the board of directors.
"We will see a lawsuit, because these notes cannot be tolerated. There are falsehoods and half-truths in the letter, which try to influence matters that cannot be. They've lost their mind."
Tebas Responds to Atlético de Madrid
Regarding the Atlético de Madrid social media posts that sarcastically criticized Real Madrid, Tebas stated that the white club is the one who "heats up the matches." In his opinion, Real Madrid TV is the one creating a climate of "tension" by calling referees "corrupt" and claiming that the league is "adulterated." Tebas was very critical of the Madrid club’s stance:
"What Atlético is doing seems ironic to me. I can’t describe it any other way. We all know where we come from and why."
Relationship with Florentino Pérez and the Future of Refereeing
Tebas also highlighted that reconciliation with Real Madrid and its president, Florentino Pérez, seems unlikely. He ironically noted:
"The president of Real Madrid always wants to be right. We all have to kneel before the ACS offices (Florentino Pérez’s company) and apologize, acknowledging that he has come to save football."

Regarding the possibility of reforming the refereeing model, Tebas mentioned that LaLiga will study the option of creating an independent refereeing committee, similar to the models in the Premier League and Bundesliga. However, he ruled out the idea of bringing referees from other nationalities to LaLiga.
