Ansu Fati Injury Rules Him Out of Barcelona’s U.S. Tour
The young Barcelona forward sustained an injury to the sole of his foot. He will undergo conservative treatment and will miss the tour of the United States.
Barcelona forward Ansu Fati injured the sole of his right foot during training yesterday and will undergo conservative treatment in the Catalan capital, meaning he will miss the pre-season tour of the United States starting on Sunday, the club announced on Wednesday.
The Blaugrana did not specify the expected recovery period for the forward, who was hoping to earn the trust of new coach Hansi Flick after spending last season on loan at Brighton.
Fati, who will turn 22 in October and is under contract with Barça until 2027, scored four goals and provided one assist in 27 matches with the English side, but his progress was hindered by a muscle injury in his right calf, which kept him out for over two months between November and February.
This latest setback adds to a series of physical problems that have plagued the Spanish international’s career. Fati made his Barcelona first-team debut at 16 years, 9 months, and 25 days old on August 5, 2019, against Betis in a Liga match.
After scoring eight goals and providing one assist in his first professional season, Fati tore the meniscus in his left knee on November 7, 2020, against Betis. He underwent four surgeries for this injury and was out for almost a year.
The forward returned on September 26, 2021, against Levante, marking his comeback with a goal, but two months later, he suffered a hamstring injury in his left leg against Celta. He relapsed two months later, after playing just half an hour against Athletic Club on his return.
Following 10 appearances in the 2020-2021 season and 15 the next season, Fati played 55 matches in the 2022-2023 campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing 4 assists before going on loan to Brighton.
