Why Was "Chucky" Lozano Really Banned from the Mexican National Team?
Hirving "Chucky" Lozano, one of Mexico's most prominent football stars, has found himself at the center of controversy after reports surfaced of his alleged ban from the Mexican National Team. Despite his strong start to the season with PSV Eindhoven, where he has delivered outstanding performances, the forward is reportedly set to miss the upcoming national team call-ups due to a controversial decision by the team’s management.
According to journalist Fernando Cevallos, beIN SPORTS collaborator, the incident that triggered this decision occurred just before the team’s last gathering ahead of the Copa América. During a trip alongside Santiago Giménez, both players missed their connecting flight. While Giménez was rebooked in business class, Lozano was assigned to economy class, which reportedly upset him, leading to complaints that did not sit well with the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) officials.
Cevallos mentioned on the program "La Última Palabra" that this "tantrum" by Lozano was the final straw, leading the FMF’s higher-ups to decide not to call him up for the September FIFA matches. He may even be sidelined from the national team for several months.
What is most surprising is that this decision comes at a time when Lozano is enjoying one of his best runs, being a key player for PSV and demonstrating a level that positions him among the best Mexican footballers today. However, the FMF appears firm in its stance, raising questions about the team’s internal management and discipline.
With the first roster of Javier "El Vasco" Aguirre in his third stint as the Mexican National Team’s head coach already released, Lozano’s absence is one of the most talked-about, leaving the team’s prospects for upcoming international commitments uncertain.
