One of the darkest chapters in the history of the CrossFit Games is being written after athlete Lazar Dukic died following Event 1 of the competition.

The incident occurred during the swim and run event, in the final stretch about 100 meters from the finish line. 

Despite being one of the top contenders, Dukic disappeared, and there has been no further information on his whereabouts.

The CrossFit Games organization has announced the athlete’s death through a statement on social media. They added that they are cooperating directly with local authorities and are providing support to the family during this loss.

In light of the tragedy, the CrossFit Games organization has canceled the remaining events of the day in the competition that seeks to crown the fittest man and woman on the planet.
