Try Not to Cry: Alcaraz’s Most Emotional Moment After Losing Gold to Djokovic
It’s rare to see Carlos Alcaraz without a smile on his face. He always seems to enjoy what he does, and he brings joy to others. It’s even rarer to see him emotional, with tears in his eyes. However, he couldn't hold back at the end of the Olympic final against Novak Djokovic after losing the gold medal at Paris 2024.
The Spaniard, who secured silver in his first Olympic appearance, couldn't finish his courtside interview with the television. The intense final, decided in two tiebreaks after almost three hours, overwhelmed him.
"We fought a match of almost three hours. We didn't take advantage of the opportunities we had, and playing against Djokovic is never easy," Alcaraz said to Eurosport.
"He always performs at a very high level in those moments. He deserves this opportunity. I didn't capitalize on the chances. He stepped up in the tiebreaks. He deserves it. I leave with my head held high because I gave it my all," said the Spanish tennis player, who broke down and couldn't hold back the tears or continue the conversation.
