Mexican Archer Alejandra Valencia Joins Esteemed List
Alejandra Valencia, who secured bronze alongside Ángela Ruiz and Ana Vázquez in the women's team archery competition at Paris 2024, has now become the fourth Mexican athlete to hold more than one Olympic medal.
Valencia previously won another bronze in the mixed team event with Luis Álvarez at Tokyo 2020. She now joins the ranks of María Espinoza (gold, silver, and bronze in taekwondo), Paola Espinosa (silver and bronze in diving), and Alejandra Orozco (silver and bronze in diving).
Mexican archery also saw podium finishes at London 2012, with Aida Román winning silver and Mariana Avitia taking bronze. The third podium finish in this sport for Mexico came from Mariana Avitia's third place in London 2012.
During the press conference for medalists, Valencia expressed that this bronze "means a lot" to her as it is her second Olympic medal. She emphasized the hard work put into achieving it.
"We knew we could do it, and we know that we can aim for gold next. We will keep working hard," said the 29-year-old archer from Hermosillo. She also thanked all the Mexicans for their support, noting that "even a small contribution" was significant in reaching this success.
