Red Bull introduces Verstappen and Checo Pérez RB20
The Red Bull Racing team, which last year repeated the 'double' achieved the previous year by winning both the Formula One drivers' and constructors' championships, unveiled their new car, the RB20, on Thursday at their headquarters in Milton Keynes, England. The car will be piloted this season by the Dutchman Max Verstappen, who will be seeking his fourth consecutive title, and the Mexican Sergio Pérez.
Verstappen, 26, dominated the past season, breaking all kinds of records - including his own record for wins in a single year, which he raised to 19 - and now has 54 victories in the premier category, the third highest of all time, surpassed only by the two seven-time world champions, German Michael Schumacher (91) and Englishman Lewis Hamilton (all-time record holder, with 103). 'Checo', born 34 years ago in Guadalajara (Jalisco) and runner-up in the world championship last season - in which he secured two victories to bring his tally to six in the top division of motorsport - will be able to continue improving his record of wins and podiums while also aiming for a third consecutive Constructors' World Championship alongside 'Mad Max'.
The 2024 World Championship will kick off on the first weekend of March in Bahrain, at the Sakhir circuit, where pre-season tests will take place next week, from February 21 to 23. The car, designed by the brilliant English engineer Adrian Newey - the aerodynamics guru - will once again be the car to beat in what will be the twentieth season in the premier category for the team integrated into the sports and advertising empire created by the Austrian Dietrich Mateschitz, who passed away last year.
The presentation event was attended, among others, by the Englishman Christian Horner, team principal, and the former Scottish driver David Coulthard, who achieved the team's first podium by finishing third in the 2006 Monaco Grand Prix; a race won by the two-time world champion Spanish driver Fernando Alonso, ahead of Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya.
