Colapinto Could Debut with Alpine in Miami!
Alpine is preparing changes after the disastrous Saudi Arabian GP, and Franco Colapinto could step into the spotlight as a replacement for Jack Doohan
The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix may have marked a turning point for Alpine, following a performance by Jack Doohan that fell far short of expectations. In fact, it seems his credit is starting to run out, and according to ‘Diario Olé’, Alpine is considering the possibility of Franco Colapinto making his debut at the Miami Grand Prix on May 4.

Doohan is running out of credit at Alpine
Jack Doohan’s performance so far this season has been a major disappointment for Alpine. He currently sits 19th in the Drivers’ Championship, still without a single point… and his best result to date was 13th place at the second GP of the season, held in China. These results—and even more so, the overall feeling—are a far cry from what was expected after the Asian tour ended.
During the last Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia, Jack Doohan hit rock bottom, finishing second to last among the 18 drivers who crossed the finish line. “A really tough day. One of my toughest in Formula 1 so far,” admitted Jack Doohan after the race. “We just have to keep our heads down, keep our chins up, and keep pushing,” he concluded, offering no excuses as Alpine’s current lead driver alongside Gasly.
Alpine wants Colapinto in Miami
During the first races of the season, Alpine tried to shield Jack Doohan. But as the weeks have gone by, their patience has worn thin. “We took the opportunity to pit Jack on the first lap after the safety car came out and leave him out on track for a long stint. From there, we aimed for a one-stop strategy and kept Jack on the track until the end. In the end, Jack had no pace on the hard tires, which complicated the afternoon,” explained Oliver Oakes, team principal at Alpine.
Amid this storm, Franco Colapinto has stayed out of the spotlight, continuing his preparation in the simulator at Enston. However, the Miami Grand Prix could mark a turning point for Alpine before the start of the European leg of the season. For now, it’s unclear if he’ll actually put on the helmet and debut. But what ‘Olé’ was able to confirm is that Alpine has decided Colapinto will be present at the Miami GP.
