Harry Kane Has His Sights set on The First Title of His Career
Harry Kane stated that winning the title in Germany would be "the pinnacle" of his entire career.
Kane, one of the best forwards in the world, has not experienced winning collective trophies. Neither at Tottenham, where he played 12 seasons and scored 280 goals in all official competitions, nor at Bayern Munich, where he completed his first season without successes in June. For this reason, EURO 2024 will be a special tournament for the player: he is hungry to add a title to his trophy cabinet.
"It would mean a lot. I love playing for England. It means a lot to me every time I step onto the field in that shirt. Winning a trophy for my country would be the pinnacle of any career. It hasn’t happened yet, but that makes me more determined and eager to achieve it, starting this summer. We have the opportunity to achieve it, and I am looking forward to trying," he explained in a press conference.
"Each tournament brings different expectations, but we have earned the right to be classified as one of the favorites. But we look at ourselves individually and as a team, and we know that, in part, we have done many things right and made the country proud in good tournaments. Ultimately, we are here to win, and there will be nothing better than doing it for the nation," he added.
For Kane, there are many top-level teams in the EURO, and England's first objective will be to overcome Serbia. He also recalled that the British team knows how difficult it is to reach a final, like the one they lost in the previous EURO at Wembley against Italy in the penalty shootout.
"We are going to have to do it again and even more if we want to repeat it. And hopefully take one more step. I am looking forward to this tournament. In 2018, the Golden Boot was an incredible achievement. We want to win the EURO, and if I win the Golden Boot along the way, I will obviously be helping my team. We have great scorers, with players in form who have had fantastic seasons," he stated.
He also answered a question about the tournament ball, saying that he likes it because it is good for forwards: "It has flight. When you hit it, it stays hit. In the Bundesliga, I have had different experiences with different balls. In Europe, we use the Adidas ball a lot, and in the Premier League, I have obviously used the Nike ball. It’s better for the scorers than for the goalkeepers, so I’m not going to complain about that," he concluded.
