PSG's Best Signing Is on the Bench and His Name Is Luis Enrique
Luis Enrique celebrated his 100th match with PSG with a victory against Aston Villa in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals
Throughout history, there have been great players who wore the PSG jersey. Weah, Ginola, and Ronaldinho before QSI took ownership of the Parisian club… and many others like Messi, Neymar, and Mbappé after that. However, little by little, fans in the stands at the Parc des Princes are starting to believe that the best signing PSG has made is the one sitting on the bench and his name is Luis Enrique.

Luis Enrique celebrates his 100th game with PSG with a win
In the summer of 2023, Luis Enrique took on the challenge of rebuilding a team that needed a radical shift in its project, and by April 2025, he has built a well-oiled machine aiming to win its first Champions League, with him as the true leader, above the team's individual stars. Just last night, he celebrated his 100th match in charge of PSG with a victory against Aston Villa in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals. The record is truly impressive: 71 wins, 18 draws, and only 11 losses.
The match against Aston Villa also highlighted the mindset PSG has adopted under his leadership, the ability to bounce back from adversity, even when starting a match behind on the scoreboard. It's far from a new situation for PSG, as this was their seventh comeback win of the season and six of them coming in 2025. In doing so, they equaled their record for wins after falling behind, originally set in the 1985/86 and 2003/04 seasons.
PSG now has its sights set on the Champions League
Thanks to two brilliant goals by Désiré Doué and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, PSG came from behind after Morgan Rogers’ opening goal. But what truly stood out was the team’s attitude, rather than sitting back to protect their lead, they kept pressing toward the goal defended by ‘Dibu’ Martínez, looking for a third goal. That goal came from Nuno Mendes, giving PSG a much more valuable advantage as they head to England next week.
This is the mentality Luis Enrique has instilled in PSG. A team more driven by the desire to win than the fear of losing. A team that now feels fully capable of standing toe-to-toe with a competition like the Champions League, which has brought them so much heartache in the past, regardless of the opponent. As Luis Enrique said after the match, the tie isn’t over yet, and PSG will travel to Villa Park to win because, simply put, they don’t know how to play any other way.
