England: Land of Miracles for Donnarumma
Donnarumma had already been decisive for PSG at Anfield against Liverpool… and for Italy against England in the final of Euro 2021 held at Wembley
Gianluigi Donnarumma was born in Castellammare di Stabia (Italy) on February 25, 1999. However, it’s curious that the best nights of his career as a professional goalkeeper have taken place whenever he’s played in England. Whether with PSG or the Italian national team, Donnarumma has turned the British Isles into his own land of miracles.

Donnarumma Was Once Again a Hero for PSG in the Champions League
His latest performance against Aston Villa in Birmingham during the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals only strengthens this theory about Donnarumma… despite conceding three goals. Without a doubt, when the game started to turn ugly for PSG in the second half, Donnarumma once again showed his best form and delivered another heroic performance.
There was little, or almost nothing, he could do about the three goals he conceded. Still, he made a total of five outstanding saves to keep PSG alive in the tie—all of them from shots inside the box. In fact, he confidently stopped a one-on-one against Marco Asensio, who was his teammate just a few months ago, and that play could have changed the outcome of the match. “We know the kind of goalkeeper we have. He proved it tonight,” said Hakimi.
The Miracles of Donnarumma at Wembley and Anfield
This wasn’t Donnarumma’s first great performance in England. Just a few weeks ago, he delivered a superb showing in the Round of 16 against Liverpool at Anfield, saving two penalties in the shootout. He made the exact same number of saves in the summer of 2021 against England at Wembley, helping Italy win the Euro—and earning the title of MVP of the tournament.
At 26 years old, Donnarumma is consistently showing his best form in the Champions League. In fact, this is the edition where he’s conceding the fewest goals per 90 minutes (1.05) in his entire career. “Champion teams always have goalkeepers who make the big saves when needed. He’s becoming more valuable each time. We need a great goalkeeper, and he’s proving his worth,” said his teammate Marquinhos. No doubt, England has become a land of miracles for Donnarumma… and in the semifinals, PSG could face Arsenal at the Emirates if they avoid a comeback from Real Madrid.
