Glasner praises Palace's character after spirited draw with Bournemouth
Crystal Palace were reduced to 10 men in the first half against Bournemouth, but battled to a spirited 0-0 draw.
Oliver Glasner hailed Crystal Palace's character after they held European hopefuls Bournemouth to a 0-0 draw on Saturday.
Palace went down to 10 men after Chris Richards was given a second yellow in the first half for tugging Justin Kluivert's shirt.
That was after the defender had already gone into the book for an earlier foul on Dango Ouattara.
The Eagles had conceded 10 goals in their previous two matches after heavy defeats away to Manchester City and Newcastle United, but were able to hang on for a point as they limited Bournemouth to just 0.72 expected goals.
Glasner praised his side for their endeavours, referencing their struggles at the back over the last week.
He told BBC Sport: "I was absolutely pleased with this point especially the way the game was going and conceding 10 goals in the previous two games.
"To have to play for 50 minutes with one player less, it's a great clean sheet."
Only Arsenal (five) have received more red cards in the Premier League this season than Palace (four) while it is the Eagles' joint-most sending offs across a single campaign in the competition (alongside 2014-15). In fact, they have received three red cards across their last four top-flight games, as many dismissals as in their previous 80 matches.
But Glasner criticised the decision to send Richards off, arguing that Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott also deserved the same fate for a foul he had committed while on a yellow card.
The Palace boss said: "For me, it's how you lead the game and consistency.
"It's either two red cards - one for Chris Richards and one for Alex Scott. Or it's no red cards at all.
"When you don't show a second yellow for Scott, you don't show a second yellow for Richards.
Andoni Iraola was left frustrated that his team failed to make their numerical advantage count.
"Before the game it wouldn't have been a bad point but considering we were playing against 10 for more than 45 minutes it's disappointing," he said.
"We didn't have the creativity and you have to be super creative or shoot from very far. We couldn't find the chances.
The Cherries have now reached 49 points in the Premier League this season, which is a record tally for the club, but Iraola just wants his players to focus on a strong end to the campaign.
"We still have five games to add more points," Iraola added. "It feels like a missed opportunity but we're still in the hunt for Europe."
