Brentford 4-2 Brighton: Mbeumo and Wissa keeps hosts' European dream alive
Bryan Mbeumo scored a brace as Brentford beat 10-man Brighton in the Premier League to keep their chances of qualifying for Europe alive.
Brentford kept their European dream alive as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa inspired a 4-2 win over 10-man Brighton at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Mbeumo netted the opener inside 10 minutes with a right-footed finish, before Brighton equalised on the stroke of half-time with Danny Welbeck's smart header.
Brentford moved into a new gear after the break, with Mbeumo scoring again when his left-footed effort took a decisive deflection off Lewis Dunk and nestled in the corner.
The Cameroon international then turned provider, teeing up Wissa for a third, before Joao Pedro was sent off for lashing out at Nathan Collins after a tussle for the ball.
Kaoru Mitoma did slot home in the 81st minute and looked to be setting up an unlikely comeback, but Brighton rarely threatened a leveller. In the end, it was the Bees who scored the sixth goal of the game when Christian Norgaard nodded home a stoppage-time free-kick.
And the game ended on an even more concerning note for Fabian Hurzeler as Jan Paul van Hecke was stretchered off following a serious head collision with Yunus Konak.
Brentford remain 11th but are now just two points behind 10th-placed Brighton, who could have moved up to eighth with a win.
Data debrief: Brentford's deadly duo
Mbeumo and Wissa stole the show, further pushing their case as the Premier League's most feared partnership.
The pair have now scored in the same Premier League game 18 times for Brentford, with only seven pairs doing so more often in the history of the division.
They both sit inside the league's top six goalscorers this season, with Mbeumo on 18 and Wissa on 16, while the former has now been involved in 24 goals this campaign, the joint-most in a single Premier League season for the Bees.
Both players have scored in seven different league games this season, while at least one of them has hit the target in all but five of Brentford's 17 home league outings.
