Pep Guardiola Gives Definitive Hint About His Future
The City manager made it clear that he would like to coach a national team to experience a World Cup.
Pep Guardiola's contract with Manchester City expires in 2025, and his possible renewal remains pending. If he eventually leaves the Cityzen institution, the Spanish coach gave a key hint about where he could go next.
"I would like to experience living through a World Cup, a Euro Cup, a Copa America, whatever it may be. I would like to experience that. I don't know when, in five, ten, fifteen years, but I would like to play in a World Cup as a coach," Guardiola said in an interview with ESPN.
However, he didn't go further than that. He didn't mention any specific countries. "I don't know who wants me," he said with a laugh. "To work with a national team, they have to want you," he added. And who wouldn't want Guardiola? Just in his time at City, he won 16 titles, including 5 Premier League titles, 1 Champions League, and 1 Club World Cup.
The truth is that his name has been strongly linked to national teams like Brazil or England in recent times. Of course, when he chooses, because surely it won't be just one national team knocking on his door; it will be a top-level one. Which one? That remains to be seen.
For now, he still has to decide whether to renew his contract with City or not. "I think we have time. Right now, I feel very good, as always, but football changes a lot," Guardiola expressed.
