Historic Record: Cavan Sullivan Debuts in MLS at Just 14!
Cavan Sullivan debuted with the Philadelphia Union at 14 years and 293 days, becoming the youngest debutant in a major U.S. league.
American Cavan Sullivan, at 14 years and 293 days old, played his first match with the Philadelphia Union this Wednesday, making history as the youngest debutant in a major U.S. league (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, MLS, WNBA, and NWSL).
Cavan Sullivan, who plays as a midfielder, entered the field in the 85th minute, just one minute after his brother Quinn Sullivan, who also plays for the Philadelphia Union, scored the fifth goal for their team in the 5-1 thrashing of the New England Revolution.
The previous MLS record for youngest debutant was held by Freddy Adu, at 14 years and 306 days.
Most major leagues in the U.S. have age restrictions, but this is not the case with soccer in MLS and NWSL.
Last May, the Philadelphia Union officially signed Sullivan to a professional contract until 2028.
The contract includes a clause that he will be transferred to Manchester City when he turns 18.
