(VIDEO) Monaco Capitalizes on PSG's Draw to Close the Gap in Ligue 1
Wilfried Singo and Breel Embolo Secure Victory at Stade Louis II
AS Monaco seized the opportunity after Paris Saint-Germain's goalless draw against Auxerre on Friday, claiming a 2-0 win over Toulouse at Stade Louis II to close the gap to five points behind the reigning Ligue 1 champions on Matchday 14.
Led by Austrian manager Addi Hutter, who will face Arsenal in London on Tuesday in the sixth matchday of the Champions League, Monaco returned to winning ways after a setback against Marseille in the previous round.
Second-Half Brilliance Secures Three Points
The home side sealed the victory in the second half. In the 50th minute, a free-kick delivered by Senegalese player Lamine Camara found Ivorian Wilfried Singo, who headed the ball into the net to open the scoring. Swiss striker Breel Embolo doubled the lead in the 82nd minute after a perfectly weighted pass from Maghnes Akliouche.
With the win, Monaco climbs to second place in Ligue 1, overtaking Marseille, now three points behind. The principality side also moves within five points of Paris Saint-Germain, who remain atop the table.
