Luis Enrique Explains Mbappé Substitution Amid PSG's Loss
The Spanish coach pointed out that they have to get used to playing without the forward after his imminent departure in the summer.
Luis Enrique, coach of PSG, appeared before the media and explained his reasons for substituting Kylian Mbappé (top scorer of Ligue 1 Uber Eats with 21 goals) in the 65th minute against Stade Rennais with the scoreline 0-1 against them.
According to the Spanish coach, the move was because "they have to get used to playing" without Mbappé, this following the confirmation that the Frenchman will leave the Parisian institution at the end of his contract, even with an uncertain destination.
"Sooner or later, sooner or later, this will happen and we have to get used to playing without Kylian. When I consider it appropriate, he will play, and when not, he won't play, as all coaches do with their players," Luis Enrique emphasized after the draw against Stade Rennais in the matchday 23 of Ligue 1.
In the 65th minute, with the scoreline 0-1 against them due to Amine Gouiri's goal for Rennais halfway through the match, Luis Enrique decided to substitute Mbappé, who was then the most active in his team's attack in search of the equalizer. Gonçalo Ramos came on in his place, and in the 97th minute, he was fouled, resulting in the penalty that he converted into the 1-1.
Recently, Kylian Mbappé announced that he will leave PSG without revealing his final destination. It has even been mentioned that he informed his teammates of his departure after finishing a training session.
