Ligue 1 Sets a New Record for Stadium Attendance
The Ligue 1 is still winning over fans, pulling in a record attendance to its stadiums. In a statement released this Friday by the Professional Football League, impressive stats about the spectators during the first 17 matchdays of the 2023-2024 Ligue 1 season were revealed.
The PFL has noticed a significant uptick in attendance, with a 12% increase compared to the same period last season. On average, 26,742 spectators attended the games, up from 23,773 at the same stage in the previous season.
This peak even set a record, with a total of 4,091,572 spectators present in Ligue 1 stadiums. This represents 20,000 more spectators than in 2022-2023, despite the reduction in the number of games played, going from 170 to 153.
The PFL statement also highlights that since the start of the season, 13 out of the 16 clubs present in Ligue 1 in 2022/2023 have seen an increase or maintained their average attendance, with standout performances like a 26% boost for Stade Brest, an 18% increase for OGC Nice and AS Monaco, and a 16% rise for Reims.
Furthermore, the stadium occupancy rate has reached a historic level of 84%, surpassing the previous season's record by 3.5 points. These numbers reveal the ongoing appeal that Ligue 1 has gained; French football remains a popular and cherished spectacle for the audience.
