Sergio Ramos Joins Monterrey: A Historic Signing for Liga MX
Club de Fútbol Monterrey has officially announced the signing of Sergio Ramos, bringing the legendary Spanish defender to Liga MX at 38 years old. Ramos arrives on a one-year contract, earning approximately €5 million, plus performance-based bonuses.
A World-Class Reinforcement for Rayados
After leaving Sevilla in May 2024, Ramos considered offers from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Italy, and MLS, but ultimately chose Monterrey's ambitious project. Club president José Antonio "Tato" Noriega highlighted the significance of acquiring the former Real Madrid and Spain captain:
"Signing Ramos gives us the extra boost needed to compete at the highest level," said Noriega, referencing Rayados’ Liga MX and FIFA Club World Cup aspirations.
Leadership and Experience for Rayados
Ramos, who will wear the No. 93 jersey in tribute to his legendary 2014 Champions League final goal, will reunite with fellow Spaniards Sergio Canales and Óliver Torres, under the guidance of Martín Demichelis. Before making his official debut, the veteran defender will undergo a short preseason program.
With a career that boasts a 2010 FIFA World Cup title with Spain and four Champions League trophies with Real Madrid, Ramos' arrival not only solidifies Monterrey’s defense but also elevates Liga MX's global profile.
