Xavi: "I'm More Motivated Knowing that I Have Less Time Left in the Position."
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández, aware that his time in the position is running out - his tenure will end at the end of the current season - admitted he is "more motivated" to face the remainder of the season.
The coach from Egara stated in a press conference that he is not thinking beyond Sunday's match against Granada and ruled out reconsidering his decision to leave the Barcelona bench on June 30th.
"I think I made it very clear, nothing has to change, I am focused on day-to-day. The decision was right, I think the club needed this change of direction. I don't focus on anything other than tomorrow's match, I don't think about Vigo or Naples. The other does not change anything, the decision is clear," he pointed out.
Xavi promised after the match against Alavés, where Vitor Roque was expelled, that he would not speak about referees again and he fulfilled it in an appearance where he did not want to assess the decision of the Competition and Appeals committees not to overturn the second yellow card shown to the Brazilian.
Xavi is solely focused on earning three points against Granada, although he admitted he will be watching the Real Madrid-Girona match: "We can't afford to fail like we did in the match against Villarreal. We will be watching today's match and also what Atlético does."
In this regard, he praised his next opponent, Granada, despite being second to last and eight points away from safety. "With Alexander Medina on the bench, they have improved defensively. We imagine a defensive match, where it will be difficult to create chances. They are second to last, but they have deserved much more."
He added that the draw (2-2) in the first leg match at Nuevo los Cármenes "is an additional motivation" for him and the players.
