Rodrygo Set to Return for Champions League Clash
Brazilian forward Rodrygo Goes, who’s been out since October 22 due to a right hamstring injury, is back in group training with Real Madrid and could make a surprise return against AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday. Rodrygo’s progress has been swift, and he completed part of Sunday's training session with the team, taking a key step towards his comeback.
The sight of Rodrygo back at Madrid’s training ground stole the spotlight. After a speedy recovery, he’s returned just in time to bolster the squad. He initially injured himself late in the Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, where he assisted in Madrid’s comeback, and had to sit out the recent El Clásico against Barcelona.
Sources from Real Madrid reported that Rodrygo practiced shooting drills with positive results but opted out of the small-sided games at the end, finishing with some individual strength work. He’ll undergo a final assessment on Monday before Carlo Ancelotti decides if he’ll be part of the squad to face Milan or if his return will wait until Saturday’s La Liga match against Osasuna.
The extended break due to a postponed match against Valencia—caused by a severe weather system (DANA)—gave Madrid some extra prep time. German defender Antonio Rüdiger has also recovered from minor muscle issues, while Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois remains sidelined with a left adductor injury and won’t play against Milan. Dani Carvajal, nursing a knee injury, and David Alaba, who trained individually, also missed Sunday’s session. With just one more training day before they return to action, Ancelotti will be fine-tuning tactics and lineups, aiming to bounce back from the blow of El Clásico and secure a solid position in their Champions League group.
