New Transfermarkt Valuations: Julián Álvarez Among the Most Devalued Players of the Season
The new player valuations recently announced by the Transfermarkt portal have generated a significant impact in the football world. These updates reflect the effects of the transfer market and the performance of players at the start of the season, showing a considerable drop in the value of several footballers, including two recent signings of Atlético de Madrid.
The most notable case is that of Julián Álvarez. The Argentine forward has seen his valuation reduced by 15 million euros, dropping from 90 million to 75 million. Despite his undeniable talent, the transfer from Manchester City to Atlético de Madrid and a start to the campaign that has not lived up to expectations have caused this adjustment in his valuation. According to Tobias Blaseio, the person in charge of valuations at Transfermarkt, "The Argentine has not been able to fully adapt to his new team and has failed to reflect the high expectations placed on him at Atlético de Madrid."
Another Atlético player who has seen a decrease in value is French defender Clément Lenglet, who has dropped five million in his valuation, going from 10 to five million euros. Lenglet shares this decline with other important LaLiga players, such as Mikel Oyarzabal, Juan Miranda (Cardoso), José Gayà, and David Alaba, who have also seen reductions in their respective market values.
Among the players who have experienced a similar devaluation are several footballers from FC Barcelona. Frenkie de Jong and Andreas Christensen have each lost 10 million, while Ansu Fati has suffered a drop of 15 million, now valued at 10 million. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has seen his valuation decrease by 20 million due to an injury, leaving him at eight million euros.
These adjustments highlight how volatile a player’s market value can be, affected both by individual performance and by the circumstances surrounding the team.
