Lewandowski: "Right Now, Including Myself, We Gotta Score More Goals."
The Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski admitted that, at this point in the season, both he and his teammates need to score "more goals" to try to win matches that will allow them to get back into the LaLiga title race and qualify for the Champions League quarter-finals.
In an interview published by the club's media, the Polish international, who has scored 18 goals in 35 matches across all competitions this season, stated that he is in good form.
"I always aim to play my best football. The other day I didn't score against Getafe. I played a very good game, but without a goal. For me, as a forward, it's important to have games with goals and to win, although ultimately what matters more is how we are doing as a team and if we win," he reflected.
Although the Barcelona 'number 9' also criticized his performance in front of goal: "Right now, including myself, we gotta score more goals and win more matches. We're at a point where we can not only win but also play better. We have important matches now, and I hope we go from victory to victory."
Lewandowski admitted that Barcelona faces a crucial stretch of the calendar with the visit to San Mamés this Sunday, the clash against Mallorca on March 8, and the return leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Napoli, which Barcelona must win at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium after the 1-1 draw in the first leg if they want to advance to the next round.
"We're at a point where winning can be very important for us as a team to gain confidence and move forward," he added.
The Barcelona forward celebrated that in recent weeks the players have had clean weeks to prepare for weekend league matches and he is confident that some injured players will soon return to the first team dynamic.
"I'm sure that if we have good training sessions now, we will play better than before. It's important for everyone to win by two, three, or four goals difference, like against Getafe," he opined.
Asked about the Champions League tie against Napoli, Lewandowski was convinced that if Barcelona plays "from the first minute like in the first half" of the first leg, they will have a chance to defeat the Italian side and enter the quarter-finals draw.
However, one of the leaders in the Barcelona dressing room warned that it won't be easy: "Napoli is a dangerous team, with good players.
