Lamine Yamal Follows Messi's Lead: Leaves Nike, Signs with Adidas
The young star of Barcelona signed a multi-year contract with Adidas and will be the only player to wear the same boots as the Argentine star.
Barcelona's young player Lamine Yamal has signed a contract with Adidas as his new sponsor and, as Argentine Leo Messi did in his day, he is leaving Nike to join the German multinational.
This was announced on Monday by the German company in a statement confirming "a long-term partnership" with the 16-year-old Spanish international.
Since late January, Lamine Yamal has already begun testing his new boots, all in white, and it wasn't until the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Napoli (1-1) that he wore the chosen model.
According to the German brand's statement, the Barcelona forward will wear the Adidas X Crazyfast Leo Messi 'Spark Gen10s', being the only player, besides Messi himself, to do so.
This is not the only parallel between the Catalan footballer and the Argentine, who in 2006 stopped wearing Nike and signed a contract with Adidas, a path identical to the one taken in 2024 by the young star of Barça.
"I am proud to join Adidas, as it has always been the brand of the best. Growing up, I idolized Leo Messi, who has been with Adidas since I started watching football," said the Barcelona player in statements collected by the German company.
Lamine Yamal is the sensation of Barcelona, with whom he has played 35 games this season, scored 5 goals, and provided 4 assists, emerging as one of the promises called to lead both the Catalan team and the Spanish national team.
Since his first game with Spain on September 8 against Georgia, where at 16 years and 57 days he was the youngest debutant and goalscorer in the history of La Roja, he has become a regular in the calls of the coach, Luis de la Fuente.
