Controversial Statements by Rafael Márquez Upset Barcelona
After the surprising announcement of Xavi Hernández's departure on June 30, Márquez took the microphone and made controversial statements that angered the club.
"You can't say no to an opportunity like this," were the words that defined the Mexican coach's press conference after a Barcelona B match. Márquez succumbed to the pressure from the media, who were speculating about his potential appointment as the next Barcelona coach.
"The most important thing is to keep preparing because it's my second season as a coach here, preparing in case that moment comes," Márquez added. These statements did not sit well with the Blaugrana Club, who deemed the Mexican coach's remarks as "untimely and clumsy."
