Carlo Ancelotti Showers Endrick with Praise
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti had nothing but praise for Brazilian youngster Endrick after his official debut, where he scored at the Santiago Bernabéu, admitting that "he's got immense potential."
"Endrick looks really promising, with huge potential. In that goal, he showed all his qualities—he's fast, has great control, and packs a powerful shot. That's his thing. He's a proper striker, especially dangerous in tight spaces," Ancelotti said during a press conference.
"Valverde keeps improving, showing a lot more personality and responsibility for the team. For me, it's easy to say he's irreplaceable in this squad because of his quality, strength, and intelligence. We're lucky to have him, and I think Kroos made the perfect choice when he left, not in terms of quality but in terms of who can replace him," he added.
The goal that broke the deadlock against Real Valladolid, a stunning free-kick from Fede Valverde, was something Ancelotti had been asking for. "Scoring from free-kicks is much harder nowadays, and Valverde has a strike we need to take advantage of. From now on, I don’t have to push him to take them because obviously, he should."
Analyzing the match, 'Carletto' said he left with a "good feeling" after the 3-0 win, although he acknowledged some first-half mistakes. "We should be happy considering the difficulties we faced in the first half. We've improved a lot defensively, but our pace with the ball was slow and sluggish. The second half was much more lively in attack, with more movement and speed on the ball," he assessed.
"The team was more compact, recovering the ball quickly when we lost it defensively. Everyone worked better than they did against Mallorca, not just the forwards, who are only part of the defensive work. I think we did a better job as a unit today," he added.
Ancelotti dismissed the idea that Mbappé needs to play on the left wing to perform well, insisting he’ll keep him as a center-forward, confident that the goals will come.
"Absolutely not," he said when asked if Mbappé has to play on the left. "He's a spectacular forward, very fast, and moves well without the ball, attacking the space behind. He had three or four chances he created with his movement in this position. He’s going to score because he’s always scored; he doesn’t need to play on the left. He’ll get his goals."
Finally, Ancelotti shut down any rumors of goalkeeper Andriy Lunin leaving in the final days of the transfer window and praised Arda Güler's effort in his first start. "This match is part of his progress. Like Endrick, we need to give them minutes gradually so they can adapt well to the team and keep improving. For them, every game is a good chance to reach Real Madrid’s level."
