Barcola saves PSG in a thrilling French Cup finish
The Paris Saint-Germain secured their qualification for the round of 16 of the French Cup with a 2-4 victory over the modest Espaly, a team from the fifth tier of French football. Goals from Bradley Barcola and Gonçalo Ramos, the latter from a penalty in added time, sealed the Parisian win after an exciting and back-and-forth match.
The PSG, defending champions of the tournament, started with difficulties. Just three minutes into the game, a mistake by goalkeeper Arnau Tenas allowed Kevis Gjeci to put Espaly ahead. However, the PSG quickly responded. Warren Zaire-Emery equalized before halftime with a powerful shot from outside the box (1-1).
The Paris Saint-Germain continued to press and took the lead in the 67th minute with a goal from Désiré Doué, making it 1-2. Just when it seemed that the visitors were on their way to victory, Espaly leveled the score in the 71st minute with a goal from Maxence Fournel (2-2), adding tension to the match.
However, the class of PSG shone through in the final minutes. Bradley Barcola, with a goal in the 88th minute, gave the Parisians the lead again (2-3). And in injury time, Gonçalo Ramos sealed the win with a penalty (2-4), ensuring the PSG's passage to the next round.
