Darwin Núñez: "Uruguay is up for great things"
Uruguayan forward Darwin Núñez assured that his country is "up for great things" ahead of the next Copa América, which will be held in the United States in June. He also expressed his excitement about the possible participation of legendary striker Luis Suárez.
"We've already shown against Brazil and Argentina that we have a lot of young players with great skills. We're all here in the national team and at big clubs for a reason," he told the press upon his arrival in Uruguay to join the national team's training camp.
Núñez emphasized that in the Copa América, "the plan is to take it step by step" and aim to advance from the group stage before "fighting for every match and doing our best" to win the continental tournament.
The Liverpool attacker didn't hide his hope that Suárez will be included in the final squad by Argentine coach Marcelo Bielsa, whom he admires and described as "a great guy."
"He jokes around a lot with the younger players, and I'll be very happy if he goes to the Copa América because he's always there to help us out. He has a lot of experience with the national team, and that's always beneficial for us," Núñez concluded.
Uruguay will kick off their Copa América campaign on June 23 against Panama at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. They are in Group C, along with hosts the United States and Bolivia.
