What Colombian Juan Fernando Quintero Said After Racing's Copa Sudamericana Title
Colombian midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero, one of the standout players in Racing Club’s squad that claimed its first-ever Copa Sudamericana title on Saturday, stated that the team managed by Gustavo Costas "is a family," a bond that was evident as they won, suffered, and ultimately conquered the title.
“We chased it relentlessly. The title was our goal. The group we have deserves it. We’re a family, and today we showed it,” said Quintero, visibly emotional, referring to the team’s unity.
“We were very united, the players we have… no words. The coaching staff we have… we are a family, and that was proven today in the game.”
Quintero also reflected on his difficult year, noting that he finished it in the best possible way by securing Racing’s first-ever title.
"All the things that happened to me... I think I’m reaping the rewards because I never gave up, I was always there, always fighting, always asking God a lot, and I thank Him. All the glory goes to Him, to my teammates, to my family, who know what we’ve been through, and that today football has given us this reward is the most beautiful thing."
The Colombian star didn’t forget to thank Racing’s fans, acknowledging their role in pushing the team to success. "To them, I want to thank them because the demands they placed on us helped make us stronger. And now that we’ve achieved this prize, I hope they enjoy it because we deserve it. That’s it."
