Boca Juniors' Quest for Seventh Title: The Unwavering Obsession with Number 7
Boca Juniors is gearing up for the Copa Libertadores 2023 final with a single-minded focus: to clinch their seventh continental title. The number 7 has become an obsession for the Boca Juniors players, who see it everywhere and in every situation.
The Copa Libertadores 2023 final, which pits Boca Juniors against Fluminense, is set to take place on Saturday, November 4. Exclusive coverage will start on beIN SPORTS at 3:30 PM Eastern Time, 12:30 PM Pacific Time.
"Boca fans are crazy, right? They see the number 7 everywhere," commented Boca's goalkeeper, Sergio "Chiquito" Romero. "My 13-year-old daughter, an ardent Boca supporter, will look at a license plate or a car and start doing the math: 'Look, Dad, it adds up to 7.' It feels like the universe is on our side, urging us to win. These are remarkable times, aren't they? God willing, we'll achieve our goal. We have one more step, and we're aiming for it."
Echoing the sentiment, defender Valentín Barco added, "Wherever there's a number, you either try to make it into a 7 or it naturally forms a 7. We even scored a goal in the 7th minute recently. The obsession is real for all of us. We have this immense desire and hope to win the seventh title."
Boca Juniors is aiming to win its seventh Copa Libertadores to match the record held by fellow Argentine team, Club Atlético Independiente. This will be Boca's twelfth final appearance, making them the team with the most appearances at this stage of the competition.
"I see it on every license plate, on every car number, on houses, buildings. I even live on the 7th floor, apt number 707. Every day when I come home and see the door, it's hard not to think about it," expressed defender Nicolás Figal.
Romero concluded, "To put things in perspective, when I was introduced to this club just over a year ago, I was given the jersey number 25. As all the passionate Boca fans say, 5 + 2 equals 7. It's another sign, right? We're close. We're very close and we're going to give it our all."
