Luka Modrić Returns to England… as a Club Owner!
Luka Modrić, veteran midfielder of Real Madrid, has officially entered the world of football ownership. The 2018 Ballon d'Or winner has acquired a minor stake in Swansea City, the Welsh club currently competing in the English Championship, marking a significant step in his post-playing ambitions.
The 39-year-old Croatian joins an ownership group led by American investors Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt, and Jason Cohen, though the exact percentage of Modrić’s investment has not been disclosed.
“Swansea has a strong identity, an incredible fan base, and the ambition to compete at the highest level,” Modrić said in a statement. “My goal is to support the club’s growth and help build an exciting future.”
Still focused on Real Madrid
Despite this business venture, Modrić remains committed to his football career. His current contract with Real Madrid runs until the end of the season, and he has publicly stated his desire to extend it for at least one more year.
He is also expected to continue representing Croatia and has his sights set on competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Swansea’s current situation
Swansea City currently sit 12th in the Championship table, eight points off the playoff spots with four matches remaining. Under interim manager Alan Sheehan, the team has shown steady improvement, earning 17 points in their last nine games.
Alongside Modrić’s arrival, the club has also restructured its leadership, appointing Tom Gorringe as Chief Executive Officer and Richard Montague as Sporting Director.
