Al-Ahly vs Stade d'Abidjan: The Champions Debut with a Victory in The CAF Champions League
Al-Ahly debuted with a 4-2 victory in the CAF Champions League, defeating Stade d’Abidjan in a Group C match held on Tuesday in Cairo. The Egyptian side, defending champions, were dominant from the start, racing to a 3-1 lead in the first half with goals from Mahmoud Kahraba (who scored twice) and Mohamed Magdy Kafsha. While Stade d’Abidjan responded with a goal from Kassoum Koné, they were unable to stop Al-Ahly's attacking force, who sealed the three points with another goal from Kahraba in the second half, despite a late strike from Roger Assalé for the visitors.
This win marks the beginning of Al-Ahly’s quest for their third consecutive CAF Champions League title, a historic achievement they have earned thanks to their impressive dominance in recent years. The Egyptian team displayed their offensive prowess and defensive solidity, once again establishing themselves as one of the favorites to lift the trophy.
Meanwhile, Pyramids FC’s debut in Group D was also convincing, as they thrashed Sagrada Esperança of Angola 5-1 at the 30 June Air Defence Stadium. Ibrahim Adel shone with two goals, while Fiston Mayele, Mohamed Hamdy, and Ahmed Atef also found the net, demonstrating their ambition to make a strong run in this campaign.
The group stage continues with Group B's action, where Mamelodi Sundowns played to a 0-0 draw against Maniema Union in Pretoria, while in Group C, Al-Ahly stands out as the early favorite after their solid start.
