Xavi Urges Barcelona to Focus on Cádiz Clash Amid Champions Anticipation
Barcelona's coach, Xavi Hernández, urged his players on Friday not to dwell on the upcoming Champions League quarter-final second leg and to avoid slipping up against Cádiz in LaLiga, as, in his opinion, failure to win on Saturday ahead of the April 21st classic "will serve little purpose".
The Catalan coach emphasized in a press conference that the clash at the Nuevo Mirandilla against a team fighting to avoid relegation is "vital," as failing to secure three points would leave Barcelona with "hardly any chance" of competing for the league title.
"These are three vital points, and tomorrow is a crucial match. Tomorrow, we are playing for a title, and I don't think I need to motivate the players any further," he stated.
Xavi dismissed the notion that Real Madrid's earlier match against Mallorca could influence his lineup, emphasizing that player fatigue and fitness issues would determine his selections, although he confirmed that Brazilian Vitor Roque, a recent substitute, "will get playing time."
Xavi tempered the excitement following the victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes (2-3) by reminding everyone that "nothing is guaranteed" in the Champions League.
"I understand the excitement, the enthusiasm, but we are in the same situation as before the PSG match. We need to think that we are only leading 1-0 at halftime. And in LaLiga, we still have chances. But it's better to live with excitement and enthusiasm than with pessimism," he added.
