What's Going on with Keylor Navas? Here's What We Know About His Future
After the close of the transfer market in the major European leagues and while waiting to define his future, 37-year-old goalkeeper Keylor Navas is training with Costa Rican club Saprissa, where he began his career.
Saprissa informed local media that Navas, a former Real Madrid goalkeeper, began training today at the Ricardo Saprissa Stadium to maintain his physical condition while deciding his future after his contract with French club PSG ended last season.
Saprissa officials have repeatedly stated that Navas has an open invitation to return to the club if he wishes to end his career there. Meanwhile, players close to Navas, such as defender Óscar Duarte, have expressed that it would be "wonderful" to be teammates at the Costa Rican club.
Last May, Keylor Navas, a three-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid, announced his retirement from the Costa Rican national team after 114 international matches and participation in the World Cups in Brazil 2014, Russia 2018, and Qatar 2022.
Last December, the goalkeeper mentioned in a social media broadcast that he and his entire family are supporters of Saprissa, and he expressed his desire to retire with one of the teams he played for during his career.
Navas began his career at Saprissa, where he won seven titles, including the 2005 Concacaf Champions Cup, which qualified the club for that year's Club World Cup, where they finished in third place.
In 2010, the goalkeeper signed with Spanish club Albacete, before moving to Levante in 2012 and then making the leap to Real Madrid in the 2014-2015 season.
Following his successful stint at Real Madrid, Navas was signed by PSG for the 2019-2020 season and remained there until the end of the 2023-2024 season, with the exception of a six-month loan spell at English club Nottingham Forest from January to June 2023.
