Toni Kroos Takes a Jab at Cristiano Ronaldo Over Real Madrid Exit
Recently retired German footballer Toni Kroos stated that for his former Real Madrid teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, "things were never the same" after leaving the Spanish capital club.
In an interview with the sports magazine "Kicker," published in honor of his recognition as Germany's best player of the year, the ex-midfielder called the Portuguese player a "success addict" and is "sure" that Ronaldo "sees it the same way."
Kroos commented on the longevity of performance shown by Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi, noting that both "decided not to stop at the top, like 95% of all players, but to enjoy football a bit longer, and that's a good path to take," even though he opted for an earlier retirement.
The German admitted he was "very angry" with his body at the end of the Quarter-Final match against Spain in the last Euro Cup because it "deprived him of the chance to play extra time as he had done the previous 90 minutes."
"First my left thigh hurt, then my calf, and then my adductors. I couldn’t go on. Man, I was mad. My head wanted to do it, but my leg wouldn’t follow," he explained.
The former Real Madrid player revealed that he has "many offers" to be a football commentator on TV but hasn't "seriously considered anything yet" because his active career "is still too close, too fresh."
"I don't want to sit at a desk and philosophize about this and that, but to be where everything revolves around the game. No controversies, no transfer rumors, no coach arguments. Just analyzing and explaining game situations. That could be exciting," he concluded.
