The Three Teams Chasing the Treble
We're approaching the stage of the season where titles are decided across Europe, and at this point, only three teams remain in the race to achieve the famous treble — and it’s worth noting that two of them could see that dream end in the Champions League semifinals.
The Three Teams Still Chasing the Treble
Having earned a spot in the Champions League semifinals, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, and Inter Milan are the only squads still in contention to win the trio of trophies: their domestic league, domestic cup, and the continental competition.
Paris Saint-Germain
Luis Enrique’s team has already secured the Ligue 1 title, so now they’re aiming to add the French Cup and the Champions League. In the domestic cup final, they’ll face Reims, who will try to stop the dominance of the capital’s powerhouse.
On the European front, after knocking out Aston Villa in the quarterfinals, PSG will face a tough semifinal against Arsenal — the team that eliminated Real Madrid.
If they reach the Champions League final, we’ll know within a week whether they’ll complete the treble. The French Cup final is scheduled for May 24, and the Champions League final follows on May 31.
Barcelona
Hansi Flick’s side is also chasing the treble, although it’s still uncertain if they will win LaLiga. On April 26, they’ll play in the Copa del Rey final, making this upcoming weekend crucial in determining whether their treble hopes stay alive.
In the Champions League, they’ll go head-to-head with Inter Milan — another club dreaming of the treble — in what promises to be a thrilling semifinal.
Inter Milan
Inter finds itself in a similar situation to Barcelona. They’re leading the Serie A, although they’re tied at 71 points with Napoli, which adds even more excitement to the domestic title race.
In the Champions League, they face Barcelona in the semifinals, while in the Coppa Italia, they’re still in the semifinal stage and will go up against their archrivals AC Milan. If they advance to the final, that match will be played on May 14 — just over two weeks before the Champions League final.
