The Players FC Barcelona Will Take to the USA
Hansi Flick's new-look Barcelona is heading to the USA for their preseason tour with a squad of 31 players, packed with academy talent. Only eleven players from last season's first team are making the trip, with ten others absent due to injuries or other reasons.
The German coach will count on eleven players from last season's first team: Iñaki Peña, Alejandro Balde, Iñigo Martínez, Andreas Christensen, Oriol Romeu, Vitor Roque, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Ilkay Gündogan, Marc-André ter Stegen, and Jules Koundé. Ter Stegen had his first preseason training session at the Joan Gamper Sports City this Sunday morning, while Gündogan and Raphinha will join the squad in Orlando, and Koundé will join on August 1 in Annapolis.
Also traveling are three players who were on loan last season: Clement Lenglet, Julián Araujo, and Pablo Torre, who scored the winning goal in Thursday's closed-door friendly against Olot (1-0). Additionally, newly signed forward Pau Víctor, who played on loan at Girona's B team last season, will join the tour.
Completing the roster are academy players Marc Casadó, Héctor Fort, Álex Valle, Ander Astralaga, Diego Kochen, Unai Hernández, Mika Faye, Marc Bernal, Gerard Martín, Noah Darvich, Guille Fernández, Andrés Cuenca, Toni Fernández, Sergi Domínguez, Quim Junyent, and Alexis Olmedo.
On the other hand, Flick will not have Spanish internationals Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres, who are still on vacation after winning the Euro Cup. Nor will he have the three players participating in the Olympic Games (Eric Garcia, Fermín López, and Pau Cubarsí) or the five injured players (Ronald Araujo, Ansu Fati, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Gavi). Sergi Roberto, who was the captain last season but is currently without a team after his contract ended on June 30, will also not be traveling.
With President Joan Laporta leading the delegation, Barça will visit the USA for the 16th time in their history and the third consecutive summer. Unlike last year when the team visited the west coast (Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Dallas), this year's tour will focus on the east coast. The team will depart Barcelona on a charter flight to Orlando, where they will play their first preseason match against Manchester City on July 30, at Camping World Stadium.
This will be the first time the Catalan team plays in Orlando and the first matchup against the English side on American soil. The last encounter between the two was on August 24, 2022, at Spotify Camp Nou in a friendly match supporting ALS research, driven by former player Juan Carlos Unzué.
As in recent years, the American tour will include a match against Real Madrid on August 3, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. This will be the fourth El Clásico in the USA in the last seven years. The tour will conclude with a match against Milan on August 6 at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
Upon returning to Barcelona on August 7, the team will play their final preseason friendly on August 12 against Monaco in the Joan Gamper Trophy at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, before starting their LaLiga EA Sports campaign on August 17 against Valencia at Mestalla.
