Ter Stegen Reflects on Xavi Ahead of the Gamper Trophy
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, who is set to debut as team captain following Sergi Roberto's recent departure, emphasized that both the midfielder and Xavi Hernández will be remembered "as legends of the club."
The German goalkeeper acknowledged the former captain and the ex-manager of last season, both of whom have left the club after a campaign in which Barcelona failed to secure any titles.
"We want to thank Xavi and his coaching staff for everything they've done for the badge, and Sergi Roberto for all he's achieved with the club of his life," Ter Stegen stated in his customary speech ahead of the Joan Gamper Trophy match, where Barcelona will face Monaco.
This will be the first home game for new coach Hansi Flick at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, following his debut on the Barcelona bench during the preseason tour in the United States.
"We begin this new season with a lot of excitement. We welcome Flick and his staff, and we hope to achieve great success," Ter Stegen added, reflecting the team's optimism for the upcoming season.
