Sergio Ramos' Highly Anticipated Debut in Mexico: When Will He Play His First Match?
Legendary Spanish defender Sergio Ramos is getting closer to making his debut with Rayados de Monterrey. After being officially registered with Liga MX, the former Real Madrid star is now eligible to play in the Clausura 2025 and could see his first minutes in the team's upcoming match.
Since his presentation on February 9, Ramos has been working hard to get in shape and adapt to his new team. However, the 38-year-old center-back stated that he would need two to three weeks to reach his best form. Despite this, he could make his debut this Saturday in Matchday 8, when Martín Demichelis' side hosts Atlético San Luis.
The Andalusian, who will wear the number 93 in honor of the minute in which he scored his iconic goal in the 2014 Champions League final, has made it clear that he didn’t come to Mexico to retire. “I’m not here for a vacation. I’m someone who never gets tired of winning and doesn’t live in the past. I’m not here to show off what I’ve won but to chase new trophies and opportunities,” he stated during his presentation.
Will He Be on the Bench Against San Luis?
Although Ramos is not yet at 100% physically, there is a possibility that Demichelis will include him in the squad for the first time this weekend. If he doesn’t debut against San Luis, his first match could be delayed until Matchday 9, when Rayados visit Club León.
The 2010 World Cup winner and two-time European champion (2008 and 2012) has generated great excitement in Mexico. Now, fans eagerly await the moment when Sergio Ramos steps onto the field wearing the Monterrey jersey.
