Rodrygo Criticizes Brazil's Performance Against Ecuador Despite Victory
Rodrygo, who scored the only goal in Brazil's 1-0 win over Ecuador in the World Cup qualifiers, expressed frustration with his team's lackluster performance, especially considering they played at home.
"Ecuador dominated for too long, and that shouldn't have happened, especially at home," said the Real Madrid forward, acknowledging that Brazil's performance was far from their best despite ending a three-match losing streak in the qualifiers.
The victory lifted Brazil to fourth place in the standings with 10 points, still far behind the 18 points of leaders Argentina. However, the Selecao's display left fans disappointed, with some even booing the team.
"We needed the win. That was our goal, regardless of whether we played well or not. We knew it would be tough, but we can improve moving forward," Rodrygo said.
He stressed the need for the team to review their mistakes ahead of their next match against Paraguay in Asunción.
Rodrygo attributed the team's sluggish showing to several players just starting their seasons in Europe, adding, "It was a long trip, and we had very little time to train. That's not an excuse, but I'm happy with the win and scoring another goal."
