How Much Teams Earn for a Win in the Champions League
The 2024-2025 Champions League has introduced significant changes, not only in the economic rewards but also in its format, promising more excitement and competition among teams. One of the most notable aspects is the new group stage format, which now includes 36 teams instead of 32. This means more matches and more high-profile encounters from the start.
The group stage has been expanded so that each team plays eight matches instead of the traditional six, facing different opponents rather than a fixed group. This will allow fans to see more top-level clashes early on, increasing both the sporting appeal and financial opportunities for clubs.
In terms of rewards, the figures for wins and draws have been adjusted. Teams will receive $2.1 million for each victory and $700,000 for each draw in the group stage. While these amounts are slightly lower than in previous editions, they are offset by the increased number of matches. Participation in the group stage also comes with a guaranteed payment of $18.62 million per team, up from the $15.64 million last year.
The new format not only increases the number of matches and team visibility but also raises the rewards as teams progress in the competition. Teams that advance from the group stage will earn $11 million. The prizes for the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals are also higher than in previous years. The winner of the 2024-2025 Champions League will receive an additional $6.5 million for the title, surpassing the $4.5 million awarded in previous years.
These changes make each match more valuable, both economically and competitively, and promise to make this edition one of the most exciting to date.
