River Plate Presents Marcelo Gallardo
Argentine coach Marcelo Gallardo returns to River Plate after a period of "renewing energy" and "recovering personal space," as he stated during his presentation as the new “millonario” coach, following his previous tenure from 2014 to 2022.
"Spending a year of my life doing personal reconditioning, renewing my energy, and regaining personal space made me reflect on many things," said "El Muñeco" during the presentation at the Estadio Monumental.
Gallardo appeared alongside the club president, Jorge Brito, on a stage featuring several panels with his image and the slogan "This story continues," along with the trophies won during his successful first term with the red and white team.
The new "millonario" coach expressed that this return, after a little over 20 months away from the club, brings him "a lot of emotion" and represents a significant "challenge" and "commitment."
"The emotion involves a lot of mixed feelings. It hasn't been long since I left, but it feels like I never left. Returning to the club, walking through the halls, experiencing the River world makes me feel very much at home, and that’s an internal emotion that comforts me and makes me happy," he asserted.
Gallardo, who won fourteen titles in eight and a half years at the helm (2014-2022), will take charge of the team this week and will make his debut on Saturday, August 10, when River Plate faces Huracán at the Estadio Monumental for the tenth round of the Liga Profesional de Fútbol.
The former AS Monaco and PSG player returns to the club after a brief period in charge of Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, where he did not achieve good results and was dismissed in early July.
Gallardo's return to the Núñez club has generated immense anticipation among fans, who hope the "Muñeco" can replicate the success of his previous stint, starting with this year's Copa Libertadores, whose final will be held in Buenos Aires.
