Ricardo Gareca Remains Committed to Chile
Chile's head coach, Ricardo Gareca, has stated that he will continue fighting for World Cup qualification until it is mathematically impossible, despite currently sitting second-to-last in the standings.
"As long as the numbers allow me, I will fight," Gareca told reporters.
"Regardless of what happens tomorrow, as long as the numbers are in our favor, I will fight for it, and the players I represent must fight to the end. I’m not giving up," he added.
Chile has only accumulated five points from seven matches and must win against Bolivia this Tuesday in the eighth round of the 2026 World Cup South American qualifiers.
"We agree that we need to win tomorrow's match, but from a position of desperation, the result is unlikely to be favorable. From a place of calm and determination, we have good chances," he emphasized.
The absence of positive results since the Copa América in June has increased the pressure on the national team, which was further intensified after a 3-0 defeat to Argentina last Thursday.
"This is a crucial moment for me as a coach. These are significant challenges in my career, and this is the moment when our coaching staff must step up," Gareca concluded.
