Real Madrid Hit with Key Absence for Supercopa
Real Madrid will be without Luka Modric for the Supercopa semifinal against Mallorca. Here’s why the Croatian star will miss the match.
Croatian midfielder Luka Modric will not play on Thursday against RCD Mallorca in the Supercopa semifinal held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, due to a viral illness, Real Madrid announced in a statement.
Modric trained normally on Wednesday, in the session preceding the match at the team's facilities near the stadium. However, the unexpected health issue will sideline him for the game (scheduled at 2 PM ET).
The medical report does not specify a recovery timeline or confirm if Modric will be available for the final against Barcelona on Sunday should Real Madrid defeat Mallorca. It only states that his condition is "pending further evaluation."
Modric, who started and scored in Monday’s Copa del Rey match against Deportiva Minera, was expected to compete for a spot in the starting lineup with Camavinga and Ceballos.
