Raúl Will Leave Real Madrid Castilla at the End of the Season and Arbeloa Will Take Over
Raúl González will step down as the coach of Real Madrid Castilla at the end of the current season, marking the conclusion of a six-year stint in charge of the club’s reserve team. The decision has already been made and communicated, and his successor will be Álvaro Arbeloa, the current coach of Juvenil A. Speculation about the end of Raúl's tenure at Castilla had been circulating for some time, and the change will take place in approximately eight months, once the season concludes.
Despite leaving the Castilla bench, Raúl will not part ways with Real Madrid. The club intends to keep the former captain on board, although his new role within the institution has yet to be determined. Possible options include joining the first-team coaching staff, leveraging his strong relationship with Carlo Ancelotti, or taking on a leadership position within the youth academy, working alongside Santiago Solari and Manu Fernández in managing the club's youth structure.
Raúl has received numerous offers to manage other clubs, but he has chosen to remain at Madrid, where he feels valued and content with his role in developing young talent. His bond with the club has been a crucial aspect of his growth as a coach, beginning his managerial career with the Cadete B in the 2018-19 season. During his time with Castilla, Raúl has secured 71 victories in 178 matches and achieved notable success by winning the Youth League with Juvenil A in 2020. In the 2022-23 season, he came close to securing promotion to the Segunda División, narrowly losing the playoff final to Eldense.
Raúl’s future at Real Madrid seems secure, but it remains to be seen what his next challenge within the club’s structure will be.
