Messi Sends Emotional Message to Luis Suárez, Who Announced Retirement from Uruguay National Team
Luis Suárez announced that he will play his final match with the Uruguay national team when they face Paraguay at the Estadio Centenario. This news prompted a response from his friend and teammate, Lionel Messi, who shared heartfelt words on his Instagram account.
"You’re unique, Luis Suárez, both on and off the field. I care about you a lot," wrote the Argentine in a post featuring a warm hug with "El Pistolero."
Suárez and Messi were teammates at FC Barcelona from 2014 to 2020, where they developed a close friendship and achieved great success together. Their peak as Blaugrana came in 2015 when they won La Liga, the Copa del Rey, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup. They now play together in MLS for Inter Miami.
Luis Suárez's announcement included the following words:
"Friday will be my last match with the national team. I hope it will be something unforgettable for me, my family, and the fans who make the effort to attend. I’m hoping for a great celebration and a win for Uruguay," said Suárez, who was a key figure for La Celeste for an extended period. He also mentioned that his decision is due to the strong generation of players on the team and that he prefers to step aside on his own terms, rather than being forced out by injuries.
